Our world exploded on national tv

death

destruction

here at home

there was pain

there was anger

there was rage

there are thousands dead.

"If it is wrong on the streets of Harlem,
then it is wrong in Vietnam."

TELEPHONE CALL

My friend called today
Native American
Vietnam Vet
Marine Corps
Enlisted 1966-1968
Proudly he told me
Of his new anti-war sign
Beside his house
On the highway north

Casually he asked
“Any news from the war?”
“Rumors are we are using napalm”
I heard his silent shudder
Cross the telephone wire
I saw an echo of his vision
What he must have seen
Thirty-seven years ago
The naked Vietnamese girl
Running down the road

Screaming as she burned
Screaming as she burned
Screaming as she burned
Screaming . . .
Screaming . . .
Screaming . . . .
This time the tv is off
It isn’t even suppertime
May George W. Bush
Rot in his Christian Hell
